Dear Parents,

Successful exploration is the result of planning, persistence, and perspiration.  Are you ready?  I anticipate a year that proves to be a journey filled with excellence and growth for every person who has an investment of any kind at Lakewood.  This is the beginning of my trek as a Lakewood Explorer, and I am excited to have the opportunity to lead.

Our PTA is one of the strongest and most committed I have ever seen, and your participation is very vital.  We have added a reading specialist to our staff and plan to see great strides as we implement Protected Reading Time each morning from 8:40 - 10:45.  Our teachers are excited about teaching the children, and our entire staff is ready for a fantastic year.

I sincerely hope part of your exploration plan is to visit with us and be as involved as possible.  Working together works in every situation, and the success of Lakewood is the result of hard working teachers and staff  and committed parents and families.

Sincerely,

Nicey T. Eller
Principal

Title IV`
Lakewood Elementary School is part of the Phenix City Public School System.
The programs and activities presented at Lakewood Elementary School comply with Title IV guidelines. We feel that a safe and drug free school environment is essential to student success.  Safe and drug - free school funds are available to all schools to support programs that prevent violence in and around schools, and prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs.  These programs are also coordinated with other efforts that help schools and communities create a safe, disciplined, and drug free environment that supports student academic achievement.

Gifted Education
The Phenix City Public School System recognizes that all students identified as gifted in our system have the right to an appropriate education that provides educational interventions which sustain, challenge, and ensure continued growth.  The Phenix City Public School System's gifted education program is designed to identify students who demonstrate high intellectual capacity, high academic proficiency, and/or exceptional talent in expression or leadership.  This program includes specific measures designed to identify culturally diverse gifted students and ensures that no student will be excluded from either referral or participation in the gifted program because of behavior.

Resources for At-Risk Students
A building Based Student Support Team (BBSST) has been created to address students who my be at risk of not experiencing school success and may be in danger of school failure.  Each school has its own BBSST and the contact person may be found by calling the school office.
