Learning through Storytelling
A Turner South Initiative

Let me tell you how I got this scar!
Students take turns sharing their stories for two minutes. Then for 1 minute, the Listener will tell 2 or 3 things he/she likes about the story. Then they switch roles for another 2 minutes, and the Listener shares what he/she likes. For the concluding activity, students share their stories and what they learn as a Listener and Teller.

Students use gestures and body language to help define the characters and show action in a story. As the students are walking in a large circle, the teacher calls out the characters. The students display their creativity by showing the action of the character.

Students display their ability to show moods and attitudes. The students on the right are saying, "Oh!" as they display their emotion with voice. The emotions they share are: surprised, scared, bored, disgusted, excited, and sad.

The students in this picture are showing how a storyteller might use facial expression to convey emotion and attitude. These students show the character is bored. Other feelings they display are: happy, angry, sad, surprised, bored, tired, and depressed.
