Assignment Sheet for August 9-13, 2004

Monday

-Choose and complete an activity from the Spelling assignment sheet for this week’s words (Week One).

-Study for Friday’s multiple choice-spelling test.

-Write bio-poem after completing a self-portrait.

-Take a math inventory test.

-Practice multiplication on the Internet using the following website:  www.aplusmath.com.

-Get picture taken with space memorabilia.

Tuesday

-Choose and complete an activity from the Spelling assignment sheet for this week’s words.

-Study for Friday’s multiple-choice spelling test.

-Identify nouns in sentences and tell whether it names a person, place, thing, or idea on pages 76-77.

-Complete the spiral review and test prep transparency.

-Diagnose readiness on pages 2-3.

-Write the standard, word, and expanded forms of whole numbers to billions, and identify the value of digits in whole numbers on pages 4-5.

-Discuss various resources for science, like SciFiles, Signals of Spring, cyberhunts, etc.

Wednesday

-Choose and complete an activity from the Spelling assignment sheet for this week’s words.

-Study for Friday’s multiple choice-spelling test.

-Identify plural nouns and form plurals correctly on pages 78-79.

-Write for 20 minutes in the spiral notebook for Daily Event Writing.  LA 5.22-5.36 (ongoing)

-Divide a sheet of unlined paper into 4 sections.  Write a singular noun, a plural noun, singular possessive noun, and a plural possessive noun.  Draw or cut out a picture to correspond with the word.  See teacher’s example. LA 5.26

-Complete the daily spiral review and test prep transparency.

-Go over last night’s classwork/homework.

-Compare and order numbers through millions on pages 6-7.

-List and discuss the difference between an eagle and turkey for Signals of Spring.

Thursday

-Choose and complete an activity from the Spelling assignment sheet for this week’s words.

-Study for Friday’s multiple-choice spelling test.

-Form plural nouns correctly on pages 80-81.

-Write for 20 minutes in the spiral notebook for Daily Event Writing. LA 5.22-5.36 (ongoing)

-Classify nouns using activities from Teacher’s Helper Aug/Sept 2003 on pages 21, 23, 25, 27, and 29 or locate and classify nouns from the newspaper and glue onto a piece of construction paper (see example), if time permits.

-Complete the daily spiral review and test prep transparency.

-Go over last night’s classwork/homework.

-Write decimals in standard, word, and expanded form through thousandths, identify the value of digits in decimal numbers, and name equivalent decimals on pages 8-11.

-List three things that define “What is Science?”

-Act out one of the items listed.

Friday

-Take a multiple-choice test on this week’s words. LA 5.28

-Turn in all of this week’s spelling activities.

-Write an expository essay using the prompt the teacher provides.

-Participate in center activities during exploratory time if time permits.

-Locate singular nouns, plural nouns, singular possessive nouns, and plural nouns in the newspaper and highlight.  LA 5.21

-Complete the daily spiral review and test prep transparency.

-Go over last night’s classwork/homework.

-Compare and order decimals through thousandths on pages 12-13.

-Continue working on math.

Lesson plans are subject to change.
