Discuss the Word of the Week:  Initiative

-Brainstorm ideas about the word.

-Write the ideas in the Changing Lives activity book.

-Write a rough draft for the Word of the Week in the Changing Lives activity book.

Always print in legible handwriting.

-Write down all assignments in planner, even if they are completed.

-Get your planner signed by your parent/guardian every night.

-Create a brochure on the three types of writing with the help of Mrs. Garrett.

-Create outlines for various writing topics.

-Discuss helpful hints for the writing assessment.

-Always print in legible handwriting.

-Practice writing for the writing assessment that is on February 23rd. 

-Pass out Valentine’s Day cards.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Review analyzing data (mean, median, mode, and range) by completing the handout called Handfuls of Candy from Mailbox Feb/Mar 2001 page 17 and Math Quiz Scores from Graphing Grade 5 page 16.

-Use the math links provided on this lesson plan during Computer Lab time.

-Distance Learning at 2:00 P.M.

We will only be switching in the afternoon today, so we can prepare for the writing assessment.  We will do math during that time.

 

I will print off Accelerated Math for you to work on during your spare time during the school day.  It does not go home!

Tuesday

-Revise your rough draft on the Word of the Week in the Changing Lives activity book to make it better.

Always print in legible handwriting.

-Write down all assignments in planner, even if they are completed.

-Get your planner signed by your parent/guardian every night.

-Practice writing for the writing assessment that is on February 23rd.

Always print in legible handwriting.

-During Exploratory, begin writing or rewriting something for the Young Authors’ Competition.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Complete circle graphs based on data given, and interpret given circle graphs on pages 286-287 and workbook page 66.

-Study for a Mastery test on Circle Graphs on Thursday of next week.

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Proofread your Word of the Week writing to make it flawless.

-Publish your final copy in the Changing Lives activity book.

-Write a narrative essay using the teacher’s prompt during Exploratory time.  Be sure to include figurative language and interesting dialogue.

-Practice writing for the writing assessment that is on February 23rd.

Always print in legible handwriting.

-Review circle graphs by completing the following worksheets:  More Circle Graphs p. 27, Making a Circle Graph p. 28, and Reteaching Circle Graphs p. 135PA.

-Study for a Mastery test on Circle Graphs on Thursday of next week.

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Turn in your Changing Lives activity book.  (Activities from Changing Lives are given grades in Language as “Other Averages.”)

-Write down all assignments in planner, even if they are completed.

-Get your planner signed by your parent/guardian every night.

-Identifying base words and suffixes and adding suffixes to form new words on pages 376-377.

-Practice writing for the writing assessment that is on February 23rd by writing an essay for the provided prompt.  (50 minutes)

Always print in legible handwriting.

-Review Making a Graph and Mean, Median, and Mode by completing workbook pages 64 and 65 on both sides.

-Review plotting order pairs by completing the handout on both sides. (Coordinate Graphing Worksheet and Plotting Practice)

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Using your science book, complete the provided lesson outline.

Young Authors’ Writing Competition:

Students may submit an entry in one of the three categories: poetry, short story, and nonfiction.

Guidelines:
1. 
Students may only submit one entry, and it must be the original work of the student.
2.  The entries must have a title page with the student's name, school, grade, and homeroom teacher.
3.  The entries may be typed or NEATLY written in
ink.

4.    Short stories & nonfiction submissions should be between 500-1500 words.

The entries are due to Ms. Booker by Thursday, March 3. The entries will be picked up by 10:00 A.M. on Friday.
