Discuss the Word of the Week:  Courage

-Brainstorm ideas about the word.

-Write the ideas in the Changing Lives activity book.

Always print in legible handwriting.

-Write down all assignments in planner, even if they are completed.

-Get your planner signed by your parent/guardian every night.

 

-Brainstorm ideas for writing material from your everyday life by listing ideas under the following topics:  Pets/animals, Friends, Hobbies, Wishes, Books, Memories, Music, Food, School Subjects, Family, Special Places.  Always print in legible handwriting.

-Complete last week’s descriptive writing assignment and turn it in no later than today.

-Review pages on adverbs using pages 364-371.

-Practice writing for the writing assessment that is on February 23rd. 

-Learn the correct uses for the colon using the following PowerPoint presentation:  The Colon:  A Sentence Gateway.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

 -Complete workbook pages 60-62 on collecting data from a survey, bar graphs, and line graphs.

-Introduce mean, median, mode, and range by defining them.

Tuesday

-Write a rough draft for the Word of the Week in the Changing Lives activity book.

Always print in legible handwriting.

-Write down all assignments in planner, even if they are completed.

-Get your planner signed by your parent/guardian every night.

-Identifying direct quotations in sentences and punctuating direct quotations in sentences correctly on pages 374-375.

-Review adverbs and quotations on pages 380-381.

-During Exploratory, begin writing or rewriting something for the Young Authors’ Competition.

 Young Authors’ Writing Competition:

Students may submit an entry in one of the three categories: poetry, short story, and nonfiction.

Guidelines:
1. 
Students may only submit one entry, and it must be the original work of the student.
2.  The entries must have a title page with the student's name, school, grade, and homeroom teacher.
3.  The entries may be typed or NEATLY written in
ink.

4.    Short stories & nonfiction submissions should be between 500-1500 words.

5.    The entries are due to Ms. Booker by Thursday, March 3. The entries will be picked up by 10:00 A.M. on Friday.

-Create a pyramid graphic organizer about the person you have chosen to report on for Black History Month in Social Studies.
