-Identify pronouns in sentences and replace nouns with pronouns in sentences on pages 292-293.

-Write in the Daily Writing Composition book:  My Hobby

January is National Hobby Month.  Write about your favorite hobby, giving details about the hobby and telling how you got involved in it.

-Practice manuscript and cursive handwriting.

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Turn in proofreading sheet for January 1-7.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Graph ordered pairs on pages 174-175 (1-29).

Pretend that you have a choice between a winter vacation in the mountains or a winter vacation at the beach.  Make a list of pros (positives) and cons (negatives about each location.  Then write a paragraph explaining where you chose to go and why.

-Practice manuscript and cursive handwriting.

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Use I and me correctly in sentences and compound subjects and objects on pages 298-299.

-Write in the Daily Writing Composition book:  Write Right

Homophones are words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings, such as flour and flower.  Think of several pairs of homophones and use them in a funny story where the characters using the homophone pairs get them all mixed up.

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Work on Proofreading sheet for January 8-14.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Demonstrate Degrees of Reading Power by taking the DRP test.

Friday

-Publish your final copy in the Changing Lives activity book.

(Activities from Changing Lives are given grades in Language as “Other Averages.”)

-Write down all assignments in planner, even if they are completed.

-Get your planner signed by your parent/guardian every night.

-Use possessive pronouns correctly with nouns and by themselves on pages 300-301.

-Write in the Daily Writing Composition book:  Cold Weekend and No Power

Imagine that you wake up one weekend and it’s too cold and wet to play outside.  The power is also out, so there’s no chance of watching TV, using the computer, or playing video games!  How will you spend your day at home?

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Write an essay using the teacher’s prompt.

-Work on Proofreading sheet for January 8-14.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.
