Discuss the Word of the Week: 

Patriotism

-Brainstorm ideas about the word.

-Write the ideas in the Changing Lives activity book.

-Write a rough draft for the Word of the Week in the Changing Lives activity book.

-Write down all assignments in planner, even if they are completed.

-Get your planner signed by your parent/guardian every night.

-Use possessive pronouns that come before nouns and possessive pronouns that can stand alone on pages 302-303.

-Write in the Daily Writing Composition book:  Tongue Twisters

Alliteration is the repetition of the same beginning sound in a series of words, such as, “The sleek, silvery sled slid speedily over the shimmering snow.”  Pick a letter to use as a beginning sound and write a sentence filled with alliteration.

-Practice manuscript and cursive handwriting.

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Review proofreading sheet for January 8-14.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Complete Workbook 163. (both sides)

-Study for the Mastery test on ordered pairs utilizing the four quadrants.

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Write an essay using the teacher’s prompt.

Pets and other animals often need special care and attention during the winter months.  Describe ways in which pet lovers can help animals keep warm and cozy during this chilly season.

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Work on Proofreading sheet for January 15-21.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Demonstrate knowledge of ordered pairs utilizing the four quadrants by taking the 1st Mastery test.

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Discuss concerns about the Scientific Research paper and experiment.

-Share experiment and findings with the class.

-Read pages E6-E7.

Friday

-Publish your final copy in the Changing Lives activity book.

(Activities from Changing Lives are given grades in Language as “Other Averages.”)

-Write down all assignments in planner, even if they are completed.

-Get your planner signed by your parent/guardian every night.

-Review pronouns on pages 314-315 (1-30). 

-Write in the Daily Writing Composition book:  And Now for Sports News

The Super Bowl is played toward the end of January.  Pretend that you are a football player who has just scored the winning touchdown for your team.  Write down several questions a TV reporter might ask you; then answer them!

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Work on Proofreading sheet for January 15-21.

-Participate in DARE during Exploratory Time.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Demonstrate knowledge of ordered pairs utilizing the four quadrants by taking the 2nd Mastery test.
