-Study for the Pronoun Mastery Test using Unit 9 (pages 292-327).

-Write in the Daily Writing Composition book:  “Art” I Creative?

-Many people enjoy creating types of art such as drawings, paintings, sculptures, and designs.  Write a paragraph about the kind of art you enjoy creating and why?

-Practice manuscript and cursive handwriting.

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Bring in graph paper to work with this week and next week.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Demonstrate knowledge of ordered pairs utilizing the four quadrants by taking the 2nd Mastery test.

-Transcontinental telephone service was set up in the United States on this day in 1915.  Write an imaginary phone conversation between yourself and any person from the past or present that you would like to talk to.

-Review proofreading sheet for January 15-19.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Identify a statement as fact or opinion; interpret a line plot, and a frequency table.  Write a survey question.  Use pages 260-261.

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Use commas correctly on pages 308-309 (1-20).  Also, review using commas for a series (page 166-167, 212), to set off appositives (page 500), and for direct address (308-309).

-Study for a Mastery Test on Commas.

-Write in the Daily Writing Composition book:  A Dentist’s Tool.

 -George F. Green patented the electric dental drill on this day in 1875.  Write a make-believe letter to Mr. Green telling him what you think of his invention.

-Practice cursive handwriting using the provided handout.

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Work on Proofreading sheet for January 26-31.

-Write an essay using the teacher’s prompt.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Make double bar graphs to represent information on pages 262-263.

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Discuss concerns about the Scientific Research paper and experiment.

-Share experiment and findings with the class.

-Discuss density by reading pages E8-E13.  Answer each question after each section (3). 

-Read the chart on page E11 and answer the 2 questions about density.

-Conduct the experiment on page E9 at home.  Write one or two sentences explaining what happened.  Use the following words:  model, mass, matter, volume, buoyancy, density.

-Draw, label, and write a caption for the 3 states of matter for water.

Thursday

-Proofread your Word of the Week writing to make it flawless.

-Write down all assignments in planner, even if they are completed.

-Get your planner signed by your parent/guardian every night.

-Write in the Daily Writing Composition book:  Easy Living

Thomas Edison was given the first patent for the incandescent light bulb on this day in 1880.  Write a paragraph that explains how a particular invention has made life easier. 

-Demonstrate knowledge of Pronouns by taking the Mastery Test 2.

-Study for a Mastery Test on Commas.

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Work on Proofreading sheet for January 26-31.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Continue making double bar graphs to represent information on pages 264-265.

-Work on Accelerated Math.

-Use PowerPoint program to type Scientific Research Paper in Computer Lab in the morning.

-Be sure to have your experiment, notes, and research material complete and in your colored folder.  Your typed scientific research paper is due no later January 31st.  If you do not finish typing today, you may have to work after school in the school library, public library, and at home.

Pretend that you are the last animal waiting to be bought in a pet store.  Which animal would you be?  Who will buy you?  Write a story about your experience at the pet store and the arrival to your new home.

-Demonstrate knowledge of using commas correctly in a series, to set off an appositive, and in direct addresses by taking Mastery Test 1.

-Participate in the Book It Program.

-Work on Proofreading sheet for January 26-31.

-Participate in DARE during Exploratory Time.

-Solve problems from the Spiral Review and Test Prep transparency and the Problem of the Day.

-Make line graphs to represent data and read and interpret given line graphs on page 266-267.

-Use Dealing with Data from Mailbox Oct./Nov. 1986 on pages 34-39, if time permits.
