On October 29, 2001, the Quest 2 students
and 6th grade Talent Pool went to the Tuskegee National Forest and the Mann
Museum and Outdoors. When I first got
to school, we had to wait in the gym. Then after that, we went up to the front
office. After the 6th and 5th grade got
on, we got on.
On the way there, it took us 40 minutes
to get there. The first place we went was Tuskegee National Forest. There we learned how creeks and lakes
start. To support fish, you need some
plants and insects. You also need a balanced pH. PH is the acid level in the water. If you don't have shade over your water, the fish will die. Water can come from the side of the
mountain. If it does, it will flow
downstream. There we all saw a beaver
dam. Mr. Humphrey showed us where we
were on the map. Then he showed us that
the lake we were looking at did not start there. He said that a lake does not sit flat on land. He told us that a lake sits in a
channel.
When we left there, we went to Mann
Museum and Outdoors. There we saw deer,
turkey, peacock, polar bears, bison, otters, beavers, mule deer, caribou,
moose, alligator, insect, skunk, fox, squirrel, ducks, cougar, link, whitetail,
badger, and a wolf. There I got to
feed the deer and walk the Nature Trail.
After I came out of the exhibit room, I bought some stuff.
I bought a brainteaser, popper, and a harmonica. On the way back, I played with my stuff.
When we got back, it was early, so we had to time to go down to the Nature
Trail. On the way out, we had time to
look at the creek.
