Farmland |
![]() |
This farmland has great soil to help the corn in the picture grow. Farmers use their land to grow different crops. The farmer may also raise animals such as cows or sheep. The animals graze on the grass that grows in the places where there are no crops growing.
Wild animals live closeby, too. The farmer must protect his crops from deer, raccoons, and other animals that would like to eat his tasty corn. The farmer must also protect his animals from predators that would eat them. If he raises chickens, he must protect the chickens from coyotes. He must protect the eggs from raccoons, snakes and other animals that would eat the eggs. Some wild creatures help the farmer. Ladybugs may eat harmful pests that would damage the crops. Earthworms may burrow in the soil which helps the plants to grow.
The farmer makes this habitat as healthy as he can make it. He may add fertilizer and water to make the plants grow strong. He may use poison to kill insects that would harm his crops. But he must be careful because we will buy his crops to eat, too!
