Woodland Edge Garden

Along the edge of some woodlands, you can find beautiful gardens of wildflowers. This pretty scene is from such a place. It is a cool, rainy place.

This habitat will have lots of flowers with sweet nectar. Rain gives the flowers enough water to grow. This habitat may also have birch trees, oak trees, and other trees and bushes.

It is not too dark here for wildflowers to grow. The sunlight reaches the ground because there aren't as many trees to block the sun's rays.

You would also find leaves on the ground from when they fall off the tree in autumn. The trees will grow new leaves in the spring and summer.

Rocks and logs on the ground give basking places for animals that need the sun's warmth.

You would hear the sweet song of birds who live here. Other animals would come here, too. Some animals such as squirrels may like this habitat because the trees, bushes and shrubs here give them nuts, acorns, berries, and fruit they love to eat.

Other animals may come out of the deeper forest to hunt their prey. Owls, snakes, coyotes and hawks will be looking for food here.
